Around 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Vehicles, exterior walls and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.
Officers say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a individual discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they reported.
Officers then discovered numerous other smeared automobiles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials say initial examinations show the fluid was most likely human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; authorities are not yet aware of any harm in relation with the incident," they stated.
Local authorities announced they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the public for tips.
A senior political figure said the attack made him without words and required to be addressed promptly.
"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine people by a shooter focusing on individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
